As We Have Opportunity

Galatians 6:10: As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Are we looking for opportunities to help others? Do we look for those who need to hear the gospel? Do we pass the buck when we see someone with a need we can meet or do we go through life with blinders on to avoid seeing the needs of others? Opportunities to meet the needs of others are divine appointments. Keeping them results in blessing for us and neglecting them is sin.

Job 29:12-16, 20: Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow*s heart to sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem. I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out. . . . My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

Don*t just consider what the other fellow needs. It is helpful to see your own need. YOU HAVE A BUILT-IN NEED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OTHERS. The Lord fits your need perfectly with the need of the other fellow.

Kenneth H. Wood, Jr.: To feel needed goes far toward making life meaningful. And the more we are needed, the more good we are called upon to do. If we were to follow the apostle*s counsel to do good unto all men, what rich lives we would live.

Luke 3:11: He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

James 2:15-16: If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

James 4:17: Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

1 John 3:17: But whoso hath this world*s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

I had wise and unwise supervisors in my working life. The wise ones assigned me tasks AND provided me with the tools and materials needed to accomplish those tasks. The Lord is the wisest supervisor with the noblest motives. If we believe the opportunities we are given to meet the needs of others are mere coincidence, we do not understand the Lord, His sovereignty nor His methods. For a Christian THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A COINCIDENCE. I have blown many opportunities to meet the needs of others. How about you?
